Action Jackson Goes Vroom Vroom

Cool update to the Mego Action Jackson Galleries today, thanks to the help of Scott Arendsen, Rob Chatlin and Tom Ligotti. It's the ever elusive Formula Racer and it's mysterious Australian counter part, the Green BP Racer. Be sure to check out the rest of the AJ gallery, it's some of the coolest stuff Mego made...

Meet Spider-Man, the Wicked Witch and Cornelius the Ape at Gold Circle!

There is just so much to love about this vintage Mego store appearance ad, like the word Shaboom and the use of Aquaman and Tarzan in the toy ad. Below are some of the pieces of paper you would get from such an appearance.

Spidey would hand these little fliers to kids, fortunately kids saved them!

Lucky Apes kids would get this, a signed picture of Caesar acting as Cornelius, a McDowell is a McDowell to mego....

Best Wishes, Cornelius or Planet of the Apes Day!

Neat piece added to the Mego Museum Planet of the Apes gallery today. It's an autographed handout from a store appearance made by Cornelius, although any fan worth his salt could tell you that it's Caesar in the photo. Those toy company execs can't tell their McDowell's apart. Mego did a great deal of promotion for Apes, here are some wonderful back in the day photos.

The infamous Apes Macy parade float, some new photos have come out thanks to the generosity of the Abrams family, check out this thread for more.

A Long Island store appearance for Planet of the Apes, dig the minty rack of action figures....

A colour shot of a similiar appearance.

MOTD: Miss Mary Ellen Walton

Our Mego of the Day may not have been a best seller back in '75 but her noggin has graced a metric ton of custom mego figures including Catwoman, Mary Marvel and Spider-Woman, she's a truly versatile figure.

Our Mego of the Day for this fine Monday is Captain Zantor from the UK only Space:1999 series, who was portrayed by esteemed actor Christopher Lee but many have suggested that he looks more like William Shatner. What do you think?

Mego at the 1975 UK Toyfair

At the 1975 US Toy Fair, Mego was making waves with it's new product lines and their fantastic launch party for their Wizard of Oz line. In the UK however, Mego had no toyfair presence other than the few companies that had picked up their lines for distribution, which resulted in a quieter presence. A

In 1975, the number one toyline in the UK (As voted by retailers) is Palitoy's Action Man with Pedigree's Sindy following a close second.

This article about Louis Marx mentions their new line of King Arthur and his Knights, what we all know to be the "World's Greatest Super Knights". Marx didn't create their own packaging, just merely put a sticker on the front window of the box, which are occasionally seen on the secondary market. What's curious is the mention that is a line of four figures and doesn't mention Launcelot, a journalistic error or did Louis Marx drop him from the line?

There is no mention of Superheroes, Planet of the Apes or any other Mego Lines in the 1975 Toyfair Highlights page but on the very last page of the magazine, we find a rather quick mention of Bradgates new "Startrek" line of action figures.

Palitoy (owner of Bradgate) would run with Star Trek for another two years, expanding into the Aliens.

Mego of the Day: Type 1 Kirk

type 1 kirk
Wednesday's entry into the Museum Forums Mego of the Day series is the incredibly suave Type 1 version of Captain Kirk, Command of the vinyl Starship Enterprise from the Star Trek line. I'm painfully aware of the in-joke, thankyou.

Is this your favourite figure? Did you have it as a kid? See it? Know of it? Is it in your collection now? On your want list? Do we need pictures of it's packaging in the Museum? Have you ever used it in a custom? Have you customized the character? Why wouldn't this make into your collection? Did you make funny caption pictures with it? Post pics, tell stories, say whatever, it's mego of the day.

Mego of the Day: Blackbeard

A new feature at the Museum Forums will be Mego of the Day. Where we will randomly pic a character from the Mego Toy universe and feature it.

Our first inductee is the dreaded Edward Teach aka Blackbeard from the World's Greatest Super Pirates.

Dinah-Mite's Fun Fashions!

A neat addition to the Mego Museum's Dinah-Mite Gallery today. It's a window boxed gift comprised of Dinah and three fashions. Except for the Folk Singer set, the other two fashions are from a series known as the "New Fashions". That would date this set as having a 1975 release, if only Mego had done the same things for Action Jackson.....drool......

We have new customizer spotlight for August, this month it's Dana Shaw, come check out some of his 8" handiwork. (that sounds dirty but it shouldn't)

The Waltons Go To Oz

Wonderful catalog spread today just added to the Mego Museum Department Store Gallery, this time it's a spread for the Walton's and Wizard of Oz. It's rare to see a back view from the Walton's farmhouse so I thought I'd showcase it here.

I'm not sure what John Boy is doing....
