Yeah,my dad was a district manager at P&C(a big supermarket in upstate n.y.)
and he was always bringing home cool inflatable promos like this one.
Also,in the same pic that has the Wise Owl and me pulling out an Enterprise playset,if you look by my feet, there's a stuffed talking J.J. Evans doll.
I remember I had to ask my mom whet a few of his sayings meant, like,"I am the casanova of the ghetto."
"MEMORIES."...Last edited by marmes; Mar 6, '08, 12:04 AM.Comment

Waitasec. One of the sayings was, "I am the casanova of the ghetto"?
What does that mean? Off-screen, was J.J. a gangsta? A 'playa'? A pimp? Wow. I never knew.
How toyetic.
"Is J.J. gonna hafta smack a b*t**?!"
"Go ahead, daddy!"
"All right! Dy-no-mite!"

Another great Blog and great photo's. Seeing that Shazam box insert on the floor and even the boxed Robin without the insert, it's amazing there are still mint boxed examples left. For that matter, it's amazing anything is still left in it's original packaging.Comment

Sweet Jesus, you had one awesome Christmas after the other. Your parents were totally cool getting you all that stuff as a kid, amazing"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

Cool to have someone in your building to talk Mego with.
And seeing how Mike almost immediately lost the inserts for Shazam and Robin I bet that Stretch Armstrong and Monster didn't last long

Love the Benjamin Simpson look
Mike...it's nice to see you smiling in one of those pics. I couldn't help thinking, jeez, what does it take to make this kid smile when I saw the pics in The book!

MySpace Millie Meets Mark’s Mego
as well as Part 5 of our ongoing series:
Mike Armes’ ’70s Christmas Spectacular!
The Christmas Spectacular does not disappoint. It's 1978, and the Armes family is deeply entrenched in toy goodness, items that have come to define pop culture. Enjoy!

A brand new MIB Batmobile and already a tear in the art. From removing the price tag I assume? Shame.
But that Wayne Foundation (so fresh) is awesome"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

I think the litho tear on the Batmobile box is from my mom's xmas wrapping where she adhered one edge of the paper directly to the box w clear scotch tape and when I ripped off the wrapping,up comes a big hunk o' litho!!(Easy with that packaging, kid!)
Of course she figured we were just gonna throw out that box anyway so it really didn't matter. If we only knew, huh?
1978 was a GOOD toy year!!
Shogun Warriors,Star Wars,WGSH,Pulsar...all awsome stuff.
I was a super lucky boy to get a Wayne Foundation.
The thing was as tall as me when it was set up!!
The Sesame Street car was called the Sesame Street Jalopy or something like that.I think it was a Fisher Price thing but it was a stuffed and stitched
car with a little horn.
Also of note in this pic...
Just below Pulsar's head is the corner of the box of the now super rare monster collectible "Frankenstein Pop Up Game"
It was a little yellow tower you'd insert little colored plastic swords into until a cute but cool Frankie head pops out.
Wish I had that still.Hell... i wish I'd kept all this stuff!!(Yeah, how many times you said that to yourself?)
As an adult i've since repurchased much of it but at sometimes, more often than not, PREMIUM prices.
Still, it's the thrill of the hunt and the glory of regaining some of these lost treasures
from my past that makes it all worth it.
Again,if I only knew then...
Thanks again for lettin' me share these great memories with you.
