    Ironfist & Luke Cage

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

While all of you are stuffing your faces with turkey. I have some free time to take shots of my customs before I am submitted to join a feast over at my guitar players house.

I have been playing with Luke Cage for quite some time. I wanted to do his original look from the 70s but the more I looked at it the more I realized how silly he looks now with the tiara and disco type outfit today.

So, I went with his new look with the Avengers. I have been toying with the suit for awhile. I am still in the process of creating a belt buckle that says "CAGE". I finished his "doo-rag" on his head last night that he wears once in awhile.

I wanted to keep Luke Cage on a regular Mego sized body but "beef him up". So I gave him my "beef up treatment".

Ironfist was a longer process. I designed the suit and put it together by hand. The head is my sculpt all the way. Everything you see on Ironfist, I created.

Both bodies are repaired CTVT's bodies....

    Enjoy.

Drawing that tattoo on can't have been easy.
One note of criticism if I may: next time you beef up a figure, don't treat the lower arms, that way the beefed up biceps will stand out more

Right. I did that and he looked like Popeye.

I beef up his arms and chest. You can't see his pecks and six pack with that shirt on.

Yeah, that's the Luke Cage I know, not the thug wannabe.

You know. I love the original look and a lot of those costumes that came from that era. They just look silly in modern comics that are trying to be serious, dark grim and tough. The thug look isn't exactly what I expected Luke Cage to turn to but it seems to be working in Avengers.

Hopefully they'll put him back in a costume. The 2nd Luke Cage outfit with the black, silver and red wasn't bad. It seems to be selling in the new Avengers. Don't know why but whatever makes Marvel happy.

I remember Paul Clarke (infamous Dr. Mego) had made a disco Luke Cage Powerman awhile back. It looked pretty good. Wish I had the link. It definitely had the mego feel to it.

Maybe I'll make a disco Luke Cage someday.

nice job on the customs!!!! -but your photos on all your customs would look so much nicer in natural light. try to kill the flash and other light that reflects of paint and material. use the sun or at least indirect lighting

Nice work! I had a messed up Vision costume that looked like Iron fist so I was eventually going to work on one myself. Nice head sculpt. Great work. With Luke Cage in normal clothes it makes Iron Fist's suit look extra flash, doesn't it?

I always thought they could strike a nice middle ground, using the original color scheme, but modernizing a little. Like this...

I found this on the very cool superrobotmonster site. I'd like to eventually do a custom of it. I think I saw a Pulp Iron Man hanging out there too.

Thanks!! Unfortunately not a lot of us are a fan of Luke Cage's "thug look". It seems to be working in the current issues of the Avengers. I did notice that since he has been in his "thug look" that him and Ironfist haven't been teaming up in any partner duel adventures.

It is sort of like they gave Luke Cage his own style and pushed him off as a solo hero. They kind of made him as a "stand up" for the African American community.

What some may see as a "thug look" others in a different community may see as "cool" or "hip." I think that the artist that redesigned Luke Cage was trying to come up with something that the kids or young adults of the African
American Community could relate to and that is Luke Cage's modern image. Not sure if the artist or designer really thought about how that look would look to other communities outside of certain areas.

To me, Luke Cage should be in a super hero costume. The only reason I sorta "dig" his "thug look" as someone put it is because it seems to be working in Avengers.

Luke Cage, along with several other Marvel characters are not wanted and Normal Osborn is in Nick Fury's place. They sorta changed the tables and most of the "Good guys" are the now wanted. Luke Cage's "new look" works in the current Avengers but hopefully they will change him to something later.

There was nothing wrong with "Powerman"....but somebody in Marvel thought he needed to be "updated" and thus, you have his current look...

                              Take it or leave it.
