MEGO AQUAMAN
The Defender of the Depths was one of the original four heroes produced. As good a choice as any, I suppose. He was certainly the low-cost alternative. No boots, Superman sew-on belt, Robin gloves (same material also used for the fins on his calves) , and a yellow sticker. Done! Of note is that he has pointy ears. Don't know why that's notable, just thought I'd point that out. (3:23 am)
It's interesting to note that when the Museum asked the former VP of Mego why Aquaman was chosen, his reply was that Aquaman had a cartoon running with Superman, Batman and Robin. No doubt these were reruns of the Filmation cartoons of the 60's, so we have them to thank for this great character.
Art note: The "aquatic" brushes in Fractal Painter get you Mego quality coral reefs in under thirty seconds! I mean, on what other project might I have had the opportunity to use such a thing? Thanks Aquaman!

Boxes

A wonderful shot of every box variant for Mego Aquaman, courtesy of Tom.
Solid Boxed Aquaman was the first on the scene and was the short pack figure (Only 2 per case!) Note the yellow leggings, often believed to be a factory error, it is argued that the Mego's early choice of Fabric and Dyes merely began to fade. another notable example is the early Mego Robin sleeves.

The First Aquaman Window Box (Shown Below) had to be changed once Captain America was stricken from DC Packaging.

Here is a later issue window box that replaces one Captain with another, instead of a Marvel Character we are treated to Captain Marvel or as children of the seventies know him Shazam.

New from South of the Border comes one the rarest pieces out there, a mint box Ledy Aquaman. Very different to his American counterpart, this Ledy Aquaman may be the only boxed specemin known to exist. Kudos to Mexican Super Collector Luis for these great pictures!
Cards
The Regular card Aquaman is on the top ten of hard to find carded figures.

Frugal Mego took left over Aquaman, Spiderman and sometimes Batman gloves, shoved them on a '79 Superman card and Voila! The Ultra Weird Franken-Aquaman, sometimes found with glow hands! Courtesy of Scott.

Red Card Aquaman shown above, red cards are believed to late releases and are quite desirable.
Some folks disresepect Aquaman, but how many heroes got their own playset? Take that Shazam! Click on the pic to go to the Mego Aquaman VS the Great White Shark Page!
