Mego CatWoman
Taking the oven-mitt to new lengths!
The Mego Catwoman costume design is based on a short-lived outfit the character wore in the comics. Unfortunately, that was at the exact same time Mego was in development, so we are cursed forever with Pirate Catwoman. She's still a neat figure.
Mego Catwoman's Hairdo seems to vary widely, from short n sassy, to curly-flippy.
Those are technical terms, yes. Also, boots come in flat heels (above) and high
heels (left).
PAINTED SUIT CATWOMAN
Happily we now have the two versions of the Mego Painted Suit Catwoman, the early variation that preceded the one at the top of the page. On the right and in the middle we have the blue and flesh tights versions, provided by the very handy Steve Caballero. To the left we have one supplied by Andrew Murray . Andrew assures me that his has gloves, he just sent a scan to show the arms. She looks fine without them though, don't you think? Also, I must point out that these figures were made on 2 different scanners and the obvious color differences here are due to the scanners. The blue on the PS CW is pretty darn blue, not purply, but the regular Mego Catwoman is purply (but seems to fade kinda funny, a little patchy. She may have been more blue originally...sigh...whew)
Relevance? Well, every authority on record (primarily the AFN Mego guide) lists the PS Catwoman with gloves. However, many Mego collectors insist that the Catwoman of their childhood didn't come with gloves. This was further muddied by a recent eBay appearance of a REGULAR Catwoman MOC without gloves at all.
So. Did Catwoman come with gloves? Yes. Did Mego screw up and send her out without them? Yes. Should a PS Catwoman have gloves? Yes. Is she okay without them? That's entirely up to you. I don't think that a Catwoman without gloves can be considered "complete" in the technical sense. Even if Mego sent them without them, that just means Mego sent out incomplete figures on occasion (I have a carded Superman with no insignia). It does not make it okay. Don't feel badly towards her if she doesn't have them, but don't let dealers tell you otherwise. This may not be a real world problem, but since it came up I thought it best to address it.
All Catwoman are meant to have gloves. I'm getting a little tired.
