Known as the "Battle Brigade" line, these figures came with the addition of "Top Secret Sealed Orders." No other figures are known to have come with this additional accessory. It is also unknown what type of information these "Orders" contained.
The name of the individual figure is inside the box. In addition, the accessories are attached to an inner card (a feature shared by all variations of this line).
Distributed under
a company named Polistil, these examples of Italian Lion Rock figures come in
a more familiar camouflage style box. Here, the names of the individual figures
are on the outerbox itself. You can also see the date and place associated with
each figure listed under the figure's name. We do not currently have examples
of Lion Rocks in this series from other countries so it is difficult to know
whether this style of packaging was used or the U.K. style for other European
countries.
This U.S. Lion Rock comes in the camouflage style window box with a transparent sticker in the upper right hand corner to announce the name of the figure (and the date/place associated with the figure). Note the Child protection warning printed in above the figure's name. This is not a sticker and is printed directly on the box itself.
Although they are displayed on the package back, it is unknown if all 36 figures were available in this packaging in the U.S..
The only significant difference in this U.S. style packaging is the name and the placement of the Child Protection warning sticker. The logo style is maintained (like a G.I. dogtag) but the name is changed to "Johnny Action." The warning sticker is directly below the logo. This is a sticker and not printed on the box itself. The name is again displayed using a transparent sticker in the upper right hand corner.
The reasons for the differences in the Combat Man and Johnny Action packaging are far from clear. One reasonable hypothesis is that the Combat Man packaging came later due to the addition of the printed warning on the box. With so many small accessories included with each figure, this warning would be imperative.
Personal experience with these figures leads me to believe that the Johnny Action style packaging is much harder to come by than the Combat Man packaging. Again, it is unknown if all 36 figures were available in this style of packaging in the U.S..
The side panels show small flag icons of nations represented in the set.
