Megohead of the Month – April 2012

Greetings Fellow Megoheads. As we say goodbye to March and hello to April that brings us to another Mego Museum collector spotlight. This month we check out Scott’s (you can never have enough Scotts in an online community) diverse and wonderful collection.

Museum Handle: nazgul

Real Name: Scott Morrissey

Do you have a website or a blog? Not anymore. I had a website called toyclub.org a few years ago.

Where do you hail from? Colonia, New Jersey

How did you find the Mego Museum? I discovered the site thru a web search. I acquired some loose Mego pieces and wanted to find out which figures they belonged to. As I was browsing thru the site, it really started to bring me back to my childhood. I had a few of the Superheroes and some various other Megos back then. I started to become interested in collecting the Mad Monsters and the Worlds Greatest Superheroes.

What inspired you to join the forum? What inspired you to join the forum? Questions mostly. Once I get into something, I want to find out as much as possible. When I joined I was just getting into the Mad Monsters, Tomland Monsters and the AHI Monsters. The mystery surrounding the second series of Tomland monsters really intrigued me and I figured I should consult the experts if I wanted to find out anything about them. It all kinda snowballed from there.

What is your favorite Mego line? For the 8 inchers it’s the Worlds Greatest Superheroes. As for the 3 ¾ guys, the Micronauts….the Aliens to be specific.

Happiest Mego Memory? When I was about 4 or 5, my neighbor was going to California for a trip. She asked what she could bring back for me. I told her all I wanted was “the Batman doll”. I thought that was pretty specific. A few days after she left, she called my mom and told her that she got the Batman for me. Man I could not wait till she got home! When she finally arrived and presented me with my Batman, I was a bit disappointed. She gave me this floppy, rubber crudely painted Batman that hung on a string (I know now it was the Ben Cooper Batman Jiggler). I was sad, but thankful and graciously accepted it. The next day my mother surprised me by taking me out to get the Batman that I wanted. She was quite savvy when it came to my toys, and she knew the exact one that I wanted. She surprised me even further by not only buying me The Batman, but Robin as well! Those two became my favorite toys for awhile, but they sadly found their way into the garbage at some point. When I started collecting Megos, these were the first two I went after. Funny thing is, now I’m trying to reacquire that silly Jiggler….

What is the one thing you’re hunting for? My current holy grail is the three Lords of Light figures I’m missing…Topen, Nepos and Emperor Dimentia.

What is one item in your collection your most proud of? The thing I am most proud of isn’t a figure, but an Atari Game. I own a prototype Star Wars: The Ewok Adventure for the Atari 2600. There are only 2 known to exist.

Any other hobbies or collections? I’m an avid hockey player and have a small collection of goalie masks. I love vintage video games. At one time I collected for all systems, now just the Atari 2600. The largest part of my collection is my Lord of the Rings stuff. I have most of the items from the Peter Jackson movies, but the items from the animated Ralph Bakshi movie are my faves.

Any words of wisdom for beginning collectors? Be patient and diligent. It all comes around eventually. Don’t break the bank if you can’t afford something, just keep looking till you find it for a price you are comfortable with. Nothing is worth putting you or your family at risk financially. Except maybe a Solid Box Removable Mask Robin…..just kidding……I think

Many thanks to Scott for sharing with us this month! See you again next month with another Mego Museum Member Collector Profile!
