Lili Ledy: The Mexican Connection<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Lili Ledy was a Mexican toy company that distributed many US based
\ntoys such as GI Joe, rival toymaker cipsa had released Mego’s
\nPlanet of the Apes<\/a> line to much success in Mego. Mexican law
\nrequired all toys sold in Mexico to be produced<\/span>
\nin Mexico, therefore Ledy struck a deal with Mego Corp to license
\nthe WGSH for the Mexican market.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This resulted in there being Mexican versions of each WGSH figure,
\nsometimes the differences are subtle other times drastic, Robin
\nhas red gloves and boots, Captain America had red gloves unlike
\nhis US counterpart. Also, because of Ledy’s 3 regional factories,
\nvariations exist on each of the figures themselves. You can find

<\/p>\n

Ledy produced mostly DC characters and avoided characters with
\nunique body types such as the Hulk. Most interestingly was Ledy’s
\nchoice of Fist Fighters, the company released
\nTarzan<\/a>, Green Arrow<\/a>,
\nFalcon<\/a> and Iron Man<\/a> in their hero series,
\nwhile Riddler and (apparantly) Joker rounded out the villains.<\/p>\n

Enter the Lantern<\/b>
\nUpdate to this story: <\/strong>We regret to announce that this wonderful piece has been debunked as a carefully made custom<\/strong>. It was nice to think that there was a Ledy Green Lantern out there but sadly, this ain’t it folks.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the mid eighties, well known collector John
\nMacGonagle<\/a> made claim to finding 8″ versions of Green
\nLantern<\/span>and Flash<\/span> at a toy
\nshow. His excitement was dulled by his realization that while the
\nfigures resembled Mego, there were subtle production issues with
\nthe bodies and outfits that made him dismiss them as knockoffs.
\nMany have theorized that John had discovered Lili Ledy versions
\nof the characters and didn’t know it.<\/p>\n

Years later, super collector John
\nBonavita<\/a> received the surprise of his life in a box of parts:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Much like the foreign Superpowers
\nRiddler<\/a>, The Ledy Green Lantern is based on an existing
\nfigure, this time it’s a retooled Ledy Superman
\nhead<\/span>. The figure poses many questions. Did Lili
\nLedy<\/span> produce a Green Lantern or is this figure a sophisticated
\nknock-off? (NOTE most Mego
\nknockoffs<\/a> found from Mexico are of MUCH
\nlower quality<\/a>)<\/span> The head
\nis marked<\/span> Lili Ledy on the back of the neck. If Ledy
\ndid produce it, why is there no trace of Green Lantern on
\nthe Ledy box art<\/span> (which like
\nMego’s featured other characters on the sides) or other material?<\/p>\n

Many of these questions may remain unanswered as the Mexican
\ntoy collector community is small and shrouded in mystery.<\/p>\n

Like we mentioned above, it was a custom made by a very talented person in Mexico.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
