{"id":4743,"date":"2014-07-19T22:22:25","date_gmt":"2014-07-19T22:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.megomuseum.com\/galleries\/?page_id=4743"},"modified":"2014-07-19T22:23:53","modified_gmt":"2014-07-19T22:23:53","slug":"wgsh-packaging-101","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.megomuseum.com\/galleries\/wgsh-packaging-101\/","title":{"rendered":"WGSH Packaging 101"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The following is a guide to carded Mego &#8220;World&#8217;s Greatest Superheroes&#8221; it is by no means definitive and is a work in progress.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"subpad\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><a id=\"solid\" name=\"solid\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"subheadbox\" style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<div class=\"subhead\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Solid Box<\/div>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.megomuseum.com\/wgsh\/cards\/images\/insert.jpg\" alt=\"Solid Box WGSH Insert\" width=\"441\" height=\"397\" \/>Solid Boxes were the earliest boxes Mego used for it&#8217;s &#8220;Worlds Greatest&#8221; lines, the first Monsters, Old West, Italy&#8217;s Tex WIller and Superheroes came in this. The first four Superheroes (Aquaman, Batman, Robin, Superman) are extremely hard to find in Solid Boxes. Super Hero Solid Boxes are taller than others and have insert as shown above. Retailers complained about kids damaging them to see the figure inside and quickly changed to a window format.<\/p>\n<div class=\"subpad\"><a id=\"box\" name=\"box\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"subheadbox\">\n<div class=\"subhead\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Window Boxes<\/div>\n<div class=\"topbox\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.megomuseum.com\/wgsh\/cards\/index.html#top\">Return to Top<\/a><\/div>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.megomuseum.com\/wgsh\/cards\/windows.jpg\" alt=\"Mego Window Boxes WGSH\" width=\"369\" height=\"253\" \/>The earliest window boxes feature Aquaman, Tarzan, Batman, Superman, Robin and Captain America in the header. Later boxes remove Captain America and replace with him with Shazam. Captain America and Spiderman then received their own packaging first featuring only them and then featuring newer marvel additions on the side. Future Window box releases were line specific, such as Super Gals, Super Villains and the Later Marvel and DC Launches.<\/p>\n<div class=\"subpad\"><a id=\"kresge\" name=\"kresge\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"subheadbox\">\n<div class=\"subhead\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Kresge Card<\/div>\n<div class=\"topbox\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.megomuseum.com\/wgsh\/cards\/index.html#top\">Return to Top<\/a><\/div>\n<p><br clear=\"all\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.megomuseum.com\/wgsh\/cards\/images\/kresge1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" align=\"bottom\" \/> \u00a0 Produced mainly for the SS Kresge and Co. These early card ran from approximately 1973 until 1975 when they were discountinued. True Kresge cards feature the Kresge Logo, ones with the Mego Logo were sold at other department stores. Many variants abound in the card style as new characters were introduced. The most commonly found are the Fantastic Four and Spiderman.
