Green Arrow
Mattel announced the Retro Action line in July of 2009, working in conjunction with EMCE Toys as the key designers, to produce their own “Mego” brand. Paul “Dr. Mego” Clarke has stated that Mego’s Marty Abrams was a major help in creating this opportunity.
Green Arrow was the first figure to debut in January of 2010, Mattel decided not to use the EMCE body and create their own which some toy collectors deduced was based on Big Jim tooling.
This hand painted prototype shows that EMCE took the original Mego Green Arrow as their base and dialed back the sideburns as well as “undo” Mego’s mistake of giving the classic Green Arrow pupils.

Other major changes to the classic Mego Green Arrow were the addition of the boxing glove arrow.
