How did you find the Mego Museum? I was searching around the internet and found the MM way back when. I recall the old style discussion format. I remember the members discussing this thing called ebay which was coming soon. I remember Paul Clarke posting that he found a case of MEGO 8” Spideys. He wanted to see if any of the members were game to chip in and buy the case. I replied and sent Paul the payment. Low and behold a few weeks later MOC case fresh Spidey arrived which I still have to this day. This was my first real interact experience with the MM.

What inspired you to join the forum? I joined the museum because it was a place where like-minded folks who loved 70’s MEGOS and action figures could discuss them. Also the MM provides lots of information about the various figures, playsets, accessories, variations etc.. It is also a useful tool to help with collecting.

What is your favorite Mego line? Well I am an APE addict, but I love the World’s Greatest Superhero line as well.

Happiest Mego Memory? Well to be honest, as a kid I didn’t have many Megos. I only had Captain Kirk, because on my 10th birthday I received a Mego Star Trek Enterprise set. The next day, we went to the store and bought Kirk. I had the Lone Ranger and Silver, the Six Million Dollar Man & Maskatron, and yes, even Donny Osmond (My sister had Marie and the stage playset). My best friend had Mego Aquaman and Batman and another friend had Spidey. I recall playing with them at their houses along with Ideal’s Evil Knievel stunt cycle. I am probably an APE addict because I have fond memories of watching Planet of the Apes with my mom who has since passed away. I love vintage 1970’s toys, TV shows, and commercials because they bring us back to a time when life was much simpler and the world was a much different place.

What is the one thing you’re hunting for? The one thing I would like to get a hold of is a CIPSA (Mexican) Bill and Dr. Zaius boxed.

What is one item in your collection your most proud of? I’m most proud of my Mego Planet of the Apes Treehouse Gift Set that includes the figures. I also love my mint in box, unplayed with HUGO Man of a Thousand Faces. I remember that TV commercial vividly and always wanted Hugo as a kid.

Any other hobbies or collections? Well as you know, I collect anything vintage Ape. My other hobby is martial arts.

Any words of wisdom for beginning collectors? Take your time and collect what you enjoy. Be patient and eventually that piece you are searching for will show up, sometimes when you least expect it. Happy Collecting!

Many thanks to Mike for sharing with us this month! See you in March with another Mego Museum Member Collector Profile!
