In 1979, Walt Disney sent out a comprehensive press kit for their upcoming science fiction film "The Black Hole". Included in this comprehensive kit were the usual press pieces, a Gold Key comic book, shots of store promotions and best of a a unique Mego Corporation catalog showcasing the line.
Mego, hopeful that this would be the nest "Star Wars" put a great deal of effort and care into their product line. The first wave of action figures were sculpted by Bil Lemon and had more articulation than most competitor's pieces, Mego chose to do 12" action figures for more of a prestige format and everything from toy cars to electronic games were represented. The highlight of the catalog would be an expensive interactive toy of the main robot V.I.N.cent, thought to be the christmas toy that year.
Sadly, audiences didn't take to the crew of the Palamino the way they did with the Milenium Falcon and much of the buyer support for these great toys fizzled, leaving them to be remembered here for what they could have been.
