Mego Catalog: 1980 Star Trek 12″ figures
According to Marty Abrams, Mego shifted to 12″ figures in the late 1970s because he felt he could better detail the outfits. The Star Trek: The Motion Picture figure line boasts great outfits, especially the Klingon (who is wearing a prototype outfit in this photo). The line was to include two more Alien figures whose heads were sculpted but cut from the assortment before Toy Fair.
While Star Trek: The Motion Picture was a box-office success, it did little to move merchandise with children. The toy industry would shy away from the Star Trek license in droves for the next film. The main exception being model kits and die-cast ships, which always sold.

A vintage ad from Canada promoting the 12″ line, which did not see much placement in catalogues.
