Mego Promotional World’s Greatest Superheroes Pencil Toppers Discovered!

 

An amazing new Mego discovery from 1973!

Collecting vintage Mego is never boring, and these newly discovered pencil toppers are a prime example. These come courtesy of collector Jordan Barrett who Mego fans might remember was the man who solved the “Mystery Astronaut” case a couple of years back by revealing that he was actually released as “Sky Guy” from Schaper Toys. Now, a random lot purchase included something largely assumed as fan-made turned out to be an officially licensed produced by Mego themselves. The Mego sales team likely handed these out to buyers and potential distributors for the initial launch of the World’s Greatest Superheroes in 1973.

 

 

The neck plugs appear to have been smoothed out, and wonderful little details such as Robin’s collar are unique to these pieces. Robin likely came with his removable mask, but it’s sadly missing. It’s not known if any of the other World’s Greatest Superheroes were given away like this, but let’s hope for more discoveries.
