Army : Original Accessories and Known Repros
Loose Army

boots
variant

Many AJ sets come with combat boots and this set usually does. They are the same combat boots found on the POTA Soldier Ape. The boots have been reproduced by Classic TV Toys and by EMCE Toys. The original is made of a firm plastic, while the CTVT reproduction is a very soft rubbery material. The CTVT repro is unmarked. EMCE Toys reproduced these boots for their reproduction Soldier Ape figure. The EMCE version is very accurate in appearance, size and detail. The big "tell" with these boots are the thickness They are much thicker than an original boot. It's the same thickness difference noted with Doc Mego's Hero boots when compared to those originals.

The less common boxed variant of this set does not have the typical combat boot. Instead it has Skates from the AJ Hockey set, but with the blades cut off. These can also be found in a less common Aussie Marine variant set.

Canteen

canteen

Several AJ sets come with canteen's. This one is green, as is the one in the Aussie Marine set. The canteen is actually two pieces, the actual canteen slides out of a rubber holder. The holder has a slot that allows AJ to carry the canteen on his belt. This has not been factory reproduced. The less common version of the set does not contain this item.

packs

A place for his stuff. Many sets come with packs that slide onto the belt. This one is green, as is the set that comes with the Aussie Marine. This item has not been factory reproduced.

belt
variant

Normally this set comes with a dark green belt that matches the canteen and packs in color. However, there is a less common variant that comes with a much lighter green belt (see picture of boxed set). Neither version has been factory reproduced.

rifle
rifle

Many AJ sets come with the same M16. This can also be found with several figures in the POTA line. The rifle has been factory reproduced by CTVT and by EMCE Toys. The original says Mego on the stock, while the CTVT reproduction is unmarked. The EMCE version is stamped EMCE in place of the Mego stamp on the stock, so it's easy to ID. Good thing too, since it's pretty hard to spot otherwise. It's a very accurate reproduction in material and color. The tell here is the grip near the trigger. The pattern on the original is much smaller than the pattern on the EMCE version. EMCE also used black string instead of brown for the strap.

The set can also feature the more rare white M16. The white rifle is identical to the black but has not been factory reproduced.

radio

A few AJ sets come with this walkie talkie, and this set usually has it. However, the less common version of the set does not contain this item. The radio has not been factory reproduced.
