Like the other characters in the Superman the Movie series, 12" General Zod is an algamation of the comic and movie looks for the character. The outfit is rooted in the comic version but the head sculpt depicts a bearded Zod as he appeared in the movie. It's largely thought that Mego didn't want to pay an additional licensing fee for the movie designs but it is also possible that Mego simply thought the comic outfits were more toyetic and recognizable. General Zod comes with a pistol which is actually Ming's pistol from the Mego Flash Gordon series.

The head sculpt for this figure was done by Ken Sheller, Sheller was brought in for mostly celebrity sculpts because of his ability to capture a likeness.

Boxed General Zod, it is also common to find these with "Fly Away Action" stickers on the front.
