The Starsky and Hutch line features a total of five characters without many accessories so identifying original parts and reproductions is easy with this line. Unless clothes have been factory reproduced, they are not covered as accessories in this section.
There is some confusion when it comes to footwear for the main two characters. Hutch definately came with Mr. Fantastic style boots, and Starsky definately came with POTA style Mocs. However, both characters have been reported to have come with other footwear. While we'd like to confirm this by seeing carded examples, there were enough reports that this information was included in this section as possibilities.
This section will help you identify the accessories and the reproduction parts and this page features the basic body styles used in the Starsky & Hutch line.
This line was only available on the second version of the male body, which was more buff and had plastic joints instead of metal rivets, and strung together with hooks and rubber. Both Doctor Mego and Classic TV Toys offer factory made repro Mego bodies. DM's (marked 7th Street Toys on the back) is very accurate in detail and appearance. Lighter in flesh color, with a heavier feel and more rubbery hands. CTVT's bodies (marked Figures, Inc. on the back) are closer to original color, but tend to run a touch shorter, are more fragile, and have a slightly different design. A telltale sign of the CTVT body are the legs that tend to snap together at the knees. It should also be noted that Tim Mee produced the Type 2 body during the Mego era. This is a vintage knockoff that is identical in almost every way to the original body. It's weight is perhaps a touch lighter, and the Mego copyright info on the back of the body has been blotted out, but otherwise it's identical.
Dobey and Huggy Bear were on African American bodies and both DM and CTVT have made repro's of this color. The color differences for this body are the same as the caucasion body, and the other differences are the same as well. One point of interest is the hands on the Mego African American bodies in this line. Up until this point, Mego had used the same hairy handed bodies for other darker skinned characters that they used for the Planet of the Apes soldier and general figures. This was corrected for Huggy Bear and Captain Dobey. They have the standard Mego T2 hands in the appropriate color.
The U.K. Palitoy release of these figures often feature the Trek Leg body and examples have been found packaged of the characters with the white Space 1999 version of the boot leg body. For that reason those bodies are listed here, but most commonly the characters are on the standard type 2 body.
