This hand made prototype of Old B.O.B is another sample from the Mego model department from the collection of Tory Mucaro.
Like the prototype Twiki, B.O.B is comprised of urethane resin castings pulled from RTV rubber molds and then hand painted and assembled.
B.O.B was most likely sculpted by toy industry legend Bill Lemon who also had a hand in many classic Aurora Monster models.
As Tory Mucaro pointed out, it was unlikely that these castings were done on the Mego property, more likely at a company called HMS in Pennsylvania.
Prototype Vincent
Vincent is one of the more interesting pieces from the collection of Tory Mucaro, not only is he a resin prototype but he differs vastly from the production piece.
The nost noticable thing about the figure is the paint job, it features a higher amount of detail than the factory piece.
The most interesting feature however are the retractable claws that have doors around them, according to Tory Mucaro these were most likely eliminated for cost savings or small parts concerns.
A comparison shot between prototype Vincent (Right) and a factory produced figure (Left) as you can see it’s all in the details.
Many thanks to Tory Mucaro for these amazing pictures and information.
