Sometimes you don't see something even though it's staring you in the face. That's the case with today's fun update, we reveal the two different Mego Fortress of Solitude Playsets that are out there. A completely revised gallery that also features new evidence this was originally supposed to be called the Hall of Justice.
I love good Planet of the Apes customs, that's why I'm smitten with Jim's rendition of Caesar from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Call it monkey love I guess.....

This month's TV Film Memorabilia has an expansive history of Mego Corporation article written by Spencer Peet, many of the photographs are from the Mego Museum. The article covers the rise and fall of Mego and includes a wide amount of rare product from all their lines.
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Super-Spider-Man? Ron's latest creation is a very imaginative alagamation of two pop culture icons.

Jason has created a pretty fantastic mego sized version of Corsair from the pages of the X-Men. Check it out here.
Ray posted this great video of one of Scott's Dida play sets from last weekend's Megomeet. Well worth a look

After the break, I gave my presentation on two of my obsessions, Comic Action and Pocket Heroes. Ray Miller graciously loaned me some pieces from his collection for display.
Mike Jimenez followed with an excellent piece on Mego Planet of the Apes figures. Mike knows his stuff when it comes to the Apes and his presentation was not only informative but entertaining as well.
I left Mike's session wanting to rebuild my Apes collection and began eyeing a boxed throne set on a table in the dealers room.
Around Noon we all broke for the group photo to commemorate the event.
The second annual Megomeet raffle was a huge success with a staggering amount of prizes being donated this year. A nice mix of attendees and online members won this year.
After the raffle it was time for the final session of the day, Museum "Q & A" which generated some interesting feedback for the site. Then is was time to clean up, say our goodbyes and move onto Undo's for the Mego Meet dinner which was attended by about half of the day's attendees.
It dawned on me there that the show in itself is truly unique. All of the attendees could easily buy toys from Ebay but they give their time, their energy and often come halfway across the country to be a part of a community. It's humbling to watch it happen, it's not about any individual or who has what, it's about sharing the experience with a hall full of people who get it. That's what makes Megomeet a success, well that and all the work Dave McCormick puts into it every year.
As I drove home the next day, I thought about how I could help to make next year better, it's infectious! I also couldn't wait to show my son our new playset, an amazing gift from a friend.
Hope to see some new faces next time at Mego Meet 2008!

Mike Jimenez brought an inspiring amount of Planet of the Apes rarities to display this year, I'm jealous of your focus Mike.
Dan Crandall brought easily one of the best MOC World's Greatest Superhero collections in the country. Below is a short video of this display.
The display room was bursting with 70's joy as usual, from Flinstones playsets to customs to a display of rare Micronauts from Ray Miller. All of this under the watchful eye of some creepy Twilight Zone-esque Mannequins. Click below to see a video of the Display room:
Part Four: Presentations and Wrap Up coming later today.

James Gallo make the trek this year bringing with him an amazing amount of rarities.
Food arrived sometime during the evening and everyone took a quick break. While there we got to drool at the dealer set up there, he had some minty boxed stuff including a beautiful boxed assortment of six million dollar man items.
After the break, things began to wind down, the Museum closed at ten and many members met up at Paul Clare's Mego suite for drinks and conversation.
It's not often you get to chat with this many fellow collectors, so it's no surprise, I totally lost track of time. It was 2 AM before I knew it, I stumbled back to my room to catch a few hours sleep before Saturday began.
Part 2: Dealer's Room coming shortly.
Still working on a detailed report from the 2007 Mego Meet Convention, in the meantime here is the second exclusive trading card, this time it's the Astronaut from the Planet of the Apes line. This is a terrific card and a sneak peak into what Scott has planned for this series.
